The Gannett Co. owned newspaper USA Today has launched a new service that allows bloggers and website owners to include news widgets on their pages. At the moment, visitors of www.usatoday.com/community/widgets/index.htm can select between three different widgets related to travelling, choose their blogging platform and copy the code into their website. Four others are about to follow.
Besides their main purpose of delivering news and therefore spreading the newspaper brand even further, the flash based widgets from USA Today could also offer advertising and become a new money maker.
